Contemplate and Share the Fruits of Your ContemplationWhy St. Catherine?St. Catherine of Siena is my patron saint and spiritual mother. My middle name is Catherine, after the great saint, and I was formed by Dominican spirituality at the Franciscan University of Steubenville through my household: "Beloved First Truth" (which was how St. Catherine addressed God). The Dominican order, of which St. Catherine was a part, is a community of preachers with a charism to "contemplate and share the fruits of their contemplation."
What is a Mamastery?I've spent my married life as a stay-at-home mom, often reflecting on what my part is in the world when most of my time is spent unseen, inside the walls of my home. I first heard the term, "Mamastery" in the song by Danielle Rose and felt it was a beautiful reflection of the space I had created for our family. Just like at a monastery, the "Mamastery" is my place of prayer and where I am formed into who God wants me to be. This was the place where I was consecrating and sanctifying life for the sake of God's Kingdom. The many interruptions of "Mama!" are my chapel bells' call to prayer.
In Your nature, eternal Godhead, I shall come to know my nature. And what is my nature, Boundless Love? It is fire because you are nothing but the fire of love. And you have given humankind a share in this nature, for by the fire of love, you created us. And so with all other people and every created thing; you made them out of love. Oh ungrateful people! What nature has your God given you? His very own nature! Are you not ashamed to cut yourself off from such a noble thing through the guilt of deadly sin? I eternal Trinity, my sweet love! You, light, give us light. You, wisdom, give us wisdom. You, supreme strength, strengthen us. Today, eternal God, let our cloud be dissipated so that we may perfectly and know and follow your Truth in truth, with a free and simple heart. God, come to our assistance! Lord, make haste to help us! Amen.
